The process of working with clay is alluring and even magical. I work for the satisfaction that comes from creating a well-balanced pot. It is not easy to achieve harmony between the shape of the pot, the glaze and the inner workings of the kiln, but when a great pot emerges there is nothing more satisfying. The inherent uncertainty and variation that are a part of this craft are what I love most of all. The procedure is a genuine challenge and there are always better pots waiting to be made. I strive to keep the work in a fresh state of constant evolution.
Drawing from folk pottery traditions of North Carolina and beyond, I use simple tools and glazing techniques to create pots for the kitchen and garden. Every effort is made to create a simple pot that is strong in form and feel, always alive and useful. It is my hope that the work will impart a sense of spirit and enjoyment to the one who uses it.
